Fort Smith livestock auction report

The Fort Smith Livestock, Fort Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 710 head on May 5, compared to 500 head last week and 445 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, the slaughter cows were steady. The slaughter bulls were selling $15 to $16 higher. The feeder steers were selling steady to $8 higher. The feeder heifers were steady to $3 higher. The supply included 345 feeder calves, 250 feeder yearlings, 20 replacement cows, 71 slaughter cows, 23 slaughter bulls, and one replacement bull. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% were exotic breed and exotic crosses and 30% were Brahma and Brahma crosses. No Holsteins or other dairy breeds were reported. The feeder supply was about 55% steers and bulls and 45% were heifers. The prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75% to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 93.00 to 97.50; high dressing, 98.00 to 102.00; low dressing, 88.00 to 92.50. Boners, 80% to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 99.00 to 103.50; high dressing, 104.00 to 108.00; low dressing, 94.00 to 98.50. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 95.00 to 99.50; high dressing, 100.00 to 104.00; low dressing, 90.00 to 94.50. Light, 85% to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 78.00 to 82.50; high dressing, 83.00 to 87.00; low dressing, 73.00 to 77.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 124.50 to 129.00; high dressing, 130.00 to 139.50 110.00 to 119.00.
