Amarillo livestock sales summary


The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,510 head on May 5, compared to 940 head last week and 916 head last year, according to the USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, there were not enough feeder steers and heifers for a comparable sales last week for an accurate test comparison, but a higher undertone was noted. The trade activity and demand was moderate to good. The slaughter cows and bulls were selling $1 to $2 higher. The slaughter cows and bulls made up 9%, replacement cows were 1% and 90% were feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 49% steers and bulls and 51% werer heifers. Approximately 88% of the run weighed more than 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1 289 lbs., 259.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 235.00 to 255.50; 648 lbs., 192.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 183.50 to 191.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 169.75 to 176.50; few 900 to 925 lbs., 160.00 to 164.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 220.00 to 234.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 174.00 to 192.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 167.50 to 170.00; 848 lbs., 160.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 350 lbs., 235.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 214.00 to 227.50; 500 to 525 lbs., 201.00 to 203.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 167.00 to 180.00, 646 lbs., 167.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 163.00 to 173.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 150.00 to 155.50; 1057 lbs., 137.00. Medium and large frame, 500 to 600 lbs., 181.00 to 189.50; 1182 lbs., 125.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 475 lbs., 142.00; 595 lbs., 130.00; 600 to 630 lbs., 149.00 to 151.00; 719 lbs., 154.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75% to 80% lean, 1200 to 1500 lbs., 93.25 to 95.00; high dressing, 101.00. Boning, 80% to 85% lean, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 103.00 to 105.00; high dressing, 105.50 to 108.50; low dressing, 94.00 to 99.00. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 900 to 1200 lbs., 102.00 to 104.00; high dressing, 104.50 to 108.00; low dressing, 92.00 to 97.00. Dairy slaughter cows, lean, 85% to 90% lean, 900 to 1700 lbs., 85.00 to 86.50; low dressing, 74.00 to 79.50. Shelly lean, 800 to 1200 lbs., 74.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 65.00 to 76.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, average dressing, 1300 to 1800 lbs., 123.50 to 125.50; high dressing, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 129.50 to 134.00.
