Apache livestock auction report

The Stockmans’s Livestock Inc., Apache, Okla., reported receipts of 2,115 head on May 1, compared to 1,917 head last week and 1,386 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, the feeder steers and heifers were selling $2 to $4 higher. Steer and heifer calves were selling $1 to $3 higher. The quality was good to attractive, with good demand for all classes. The supply included 80% weighing more than 600 pounds and 29% were heifers. There were not enough slaughter cow numbers for a market test. The slaughter bulls were steady. The packer demand was good. A total of 198 cows and bulls was sold with 58% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 21 head, 1250 to 1950 lbs., 120.00 to 126.00; high dressing, 131.00 to 132.50; low dressing, 108.00 to 111.00.

Replacement cows: Pre-tested for bangs, pregnancy, and age. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 6 years old, 1000 to 1150 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality 1385.00 to 1485.00; 8 to 19 years old, 1075 to 1250 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality 1210.00 to 1275.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 3 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., with 75- to 225-lb. calves, high quality 2575.00; 2 to 3 years old, 900 to 1050 lbs., with 125- to 275-lb. calves, average quality 1775.00 to 1900.00.
