McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,000 head on Feb. 18, compared to 425 head last week and 1,130 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to a light test last week, steer calves were selling $5 to $8 higher. Heifer calves weighing less than 550 pounds were selling $1 to $4 lower, those weighing mor than 550 pounds were selling $1 to $3 higher. The quality was good with good demand. The supply included 36% weighing more than 600 pounds with 39% heifers. The slaughter cows were selling $1 to $3 lower, except lean cows that were selling $1 higher. Slaughter bulls were sold $7 higher. A total of 292 cows and bulls was sold with 58% going to packers.
