Arkansas livestock auction summary

The summary of livestock auctions in Arkansas for the week ending on Feb. 13 showed estimated receipts of 2,850 head, compared to 3,050 head last week and 2,824 head last year, according to the USDA-Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last report, the slaughter cows sold were mostly steady. The slaughter bulls were sold $5 higher. The feeder steers were sold $1 to $6 higher. Feeder heifers were sold $2 to $5 higher, with instances of $8 to $10 higher. Light receipts were due to lingering bad weather conditions. The supply included 1,580 stocker and feeder calves, 505 feeder yearlings, 330 replacement cows, 375 slaughter cows, and 60 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 45% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75% to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 84.00 to 91.50; high dressing, 91.50 to 96.00; low dressing, 79.00 to 84.00. Boners. 80% to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 85.00 to 95.00; high dessing, 95.00 to 102.00; low dressing, 75.00 to 85.00. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 78.00 to 88.00; high dressing, 88.00 to 97.00; low dressing, 68.00 to 78.00. Light, 85% to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 62.00 to 72.00; high dressing, 75.00 to 80.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 62.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 100.00 to 110.00; high dressing, 110.00 to 117.00; low dressing, 88.00 to 98.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 349 lbs., 205.00 to 258.00 (230.25); 350 to 395 lbs., 200.00 to 240.00 (226.86); 400 to 449 lbs., 200.00 to 232.00 (216.89); 450 to 499 lbs., 199.00 to 222.00 (210.34); 500 to 549 lbs., 185.00 to 217.00 (198.43); 550 to 599 lbs., 175.00 to 210.00 (190.44); 600 to 645 lbs., 171.00 to 195.00 (181.59); 650 to 695 lbs., 163.00 to 180.00 (170.97); 16 head, 750 to 785 lbs., 154.00 to 170.00 (162.48). Replacement cows: Pre-tested for bangs, pregnancy, and age. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 7 years old, 850 to 1250 lbs., second and third stage, 110.00 to 120.00, 1350.00 to 1450.00/head; first stage/open 90.00 to 100.00; 7 to 10 years old, second and third stage 105.00 to 115.00, 1100.00 to 1200.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 1550.00 to 1650.00/pair, few to 2000.00; 200- to 300-lb. calves 1750.00 to 1850.00/pair; 7 to 10 years old, with 100- to 200-lb. calves 1300.00 to 1400.00/pair.
