Texas Direct feeder cattle summary

The Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported 24,100 head on Feb. 14, compared to 13,500 head last week and 30,600 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week the current FOB feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady with a few weaker sales early in the week but then later week sales showed definite strength, which caused wider spreads on some prices. Approximately 90% of this week’s cattle weighed more than 600 pounds. Approximately 59% of the week’s weighted average receipts were steers and 41% heifers. Prices were based on net weights FOB after a 3% shrink or equivalent and a 5- to 10-cent slide on calves and a 4- to 6-cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Delivered prices include freight, commissions and other expenses. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery.
