Newell sheep sales report

The St. Onge to Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, South Dakota, reported receipts of 1,205 head on July 31, compared to 2,184 head last week and 563 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to last week, the feeder lambs were sold steady. The good slaughter ewes were sold for $4 higher and the cull slaughter ewes were sold for $9 higher. There was good demand for several long strings and several packages of feeder lambs, which were sold on an active market. The offering consisted of 93% feeder lambs, 2% replacement ewes, 5% slaughter ewes and bucks.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 18 head, 166 lbs., 50.50. Cull 1, thin, 8 head, 133 lbs., 37.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 40 head, 58 lbs., 214.00 full; 32 head, 61 lbs., 211.00; 76 head, 76 lbs., 199.00 full; 81 to 82 lbs., 201.50 to 209.00 (207.83); 95 to 99 lbs., 186.50 to 189.00 (188.68); 101 to 104 lbs., 180.00; 15 head, 110 lbs., 173.00; 121 to 123 lbs., 169.00 to 170.00 (169.86); 15 head, 137 lbs., 158.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 96 lbs., 169.00. Large frame 1 to 2, 15 head, 71 lbs., 179.50; 15 head, 94 lbs., 170.00.

Open replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, whiteface, 17 head, 2 to 5 years old, 187 lbs., 122.50.
