Pratt livestock aution report


The Pratt Livestock Feeder Cattle Auction, Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 4,661 head on March 27, compared to 6,237 head last week and 4,937 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers weighing 600 to 700 pounds were selling $5 to $10 higher on cattle suited for grazing, 700 to 1000 pounds were firm to $4 higher. Feeder heifers weighing 700 to 800 pounds were selling $2 to $4 higher, 800 to 1,000 pounds were steady to $2 lower on a light test of medium and large frame 1, steer calves weighing 600 pounds and also heifers weighing 700 pounds and under had a firm to higher undertone noted on a light test. The trade was active and the demand was very good. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $3 to $5 higher. Receipts were 88% for livestock weighing 600 pounds or more, 8% for those weighing 600 pounds or less and 4% were slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply was 48% steers and 52% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75% to 80% lean, 104.50 to 107.50. Boners, 80% to 85% lean, 101.00 to 109.00; high dressing, 113.00 to 115.00; low dressing, 97.50 to 98.00. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 99.50 to 103.00; high dressing, 106.00 to 111.00; low dressing, 91.00 to 98.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 122.50 to 125.50; high dressing, 133.00 to 136.00; low dressing, 114.00 to 119.50.
