Amarillo livestock sales summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 956 head on March 31, compared to 1,236 head last week and 525 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, the feeder steers and heifers were not enough for an accurate test except yearling heifers weighing more than 700 pounds, which were steady to $3 higher. There were a couple of large consignments of yearling heifers that exhibited the full price increase. The trade activity and demand was moderate to good. The slaughter cows were mostly steady but some weakness evident. The slaughter cows and bulls made up 8% and 92% were feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 20% steers and bulls and 80% were heifers. Approximately 76% of the run weighed more than 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 330 lbs., 265.00; 860 lbs., 160.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 228 lbs., 245.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 190.50 to 228.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 176.00 to 206.00;650 to 700 lbs., 159.00 to 171.00; 700 to 730 lbs., 165.00 to 168.00; 809 lbs., 156.00; 900 to 1000 lbs., 149.00 to 150.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 250 lbs., 242.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 212.00 to 224.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 170.50 to 199.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 163.00 to 171.00; 700 to 725 lbs., 154.00 to 164.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 440 lbs., 195.50; 665 lbs., 170.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 154.50 to 162.75; load 847 lbs., 151.00.

Slaughter cows: Boning, 80% to 85% lean, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 103.50 to 109.00; high dressing, 110.00 to 114.50; low dressing, 97.50 to 99.75. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 900 to 1200 lbs., 102.00 to 107.50; high dressing, 108.00 to 113.00; low dressing, 90.00 to 97.75. Dairy slaughter cows, lean, 85% to 90% lean, 900 to 1400 lbs., 100.00 to 102.0; low dressing, 89.50 to 96.50. Shelly lean, 800 to 1200 lbs., 85.50 to 89.00; low dressing, 78.00 to 83.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, average dressing, 1300 to 1800 lbs., 109.00 to 114.50.
