Pratt livestock auction report

The Pratt Livestock Feeder Cattle Auction, Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 3,097 head on Aug. 29, compared to 2,479 head last week and 1,638 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to weak, feeder heifers were steady on a light test of medium and large frame 1, with a few sales of cattle weighing between 650 to 700 pounds that were $3 higher. Steer and heifer calves were not enough for a market test. The trade and demand was moderate. The slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $3 higher. Receipts included 97% of the animals weighing 600 pounds and over, 1% were 600 pounds and under and 2% were slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 78% steers and 22% heifers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 456 lbs., 177.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 160.00 to 164.00 (161.99); 9 head, 711 lbs., 157.50; 67 head, 792 lbs., 153.00; 18 head, 840 lbs., 151.50; 14 head, 867 lbs., 149.10; 58 head, 933 lbs., 145.25. Heifers: Medium and large frame 1 600 to 650 lbs., 153.00 to 156.50 (154.49); 650 to 700 lbs., 153.75 to 156.00 (154.98); 700 to 750 lbs., 149.50 to 152.75 (150.99); 750 to 800 lbs., 147.00 to 150.50 (148.10). Slaughter cows: Boners, 80% to 85% lean 94.50. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 82.00 to 86.50; high dressing, 91.50; low dressing, 73.00 to 79.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 101.00 to 105.50; high dressing 111.00 to 114.00; low dressing 91.00 to 94.00.
