Newell sheep sales report

The Newell Sheep Yards, St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,256 head, compared to 1,679 head last week and 1,889 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder lambs less than 70 pounds were $2 to $3 higher. Lambs weighing 70 to 100 pounds were steady and those more than 100 pounds were $1 to $3 lower. The slaughter ewes were sold for $1 lower. There was a good demand for a few long strings and several packages of feeder lambs, which were sold on a moderate to active market. The offering consisted of 90% feeder lambs and 10% slaughter ewes and bucks.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled choice 2 to 3, 16 head, 130 lbs., 102.00.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 50 head, 162 lbs., 25.50. Good 3 to 4, fleshy, 5 head, 233 lbs., 22.00. Utility and good 2 to 3, fleshy and medium, 26 head, 177 lbs., 21.00. Utility 1 to 2, medium, 17 head, 145 lbs., 21.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 8 head, 39 lbs., 126.00; 49 head, 52 lbs., 130.00; 60 to 67 lbs., 113.00 to 119.00 (117.18); 70 to 77 lbs., 115.50 to 117.50 (116.24); 81 to 88 lbs., 107.00 to 115.00 (112.91); 95 to 96 lbs., 106.00 to 110.00 (109.42); 100 to 108 lbs., 104.00 to 105.00 (104.35); 20 head, 112 lbs., 102.50; 8 head, 126 lbs., 100.50.
