McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 700 head on Sept. 3, compared to 1,800 head last week and 835 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, classes were lightly tested due to the Labor Day holiday. Steer calves weighing under 550 pounds were $4 to $10 higher and those more than 550 pounds were $1 to $7 lower. Heifer calves were steady to $6 higher. The quality was plain through average. The supply includes 31% weighing more than 600 pounds with 47% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $4 higher in a light test. The packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 100 cows and bulls was sold with 79% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 14 head, 1300 to 2100 lbs., 105.00 to 108.00; high dressing, 109.00 to 112.00; low dressing, 96.00 to 100.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 1125 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, high quality 1475.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1225 to 1325 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, high quality 1500.00 to 1685.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1175 to 1250 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average to high quality 1275.00 to 1500.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1150 to 1250 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average to high quality 1275.00 to 1285.00.
