Texas direct feeder cattle summary


The Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 8,800 head on Sept. 13, compared to 17,600 head last week and 16,400 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, the current FOB feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady on a very light test and comparable sales were limited but with some weakness noted. There was an extremely limited test on the top end of the price ranges and a much higher percentage of medium and large frame 1 to 2, steers. Receipts were only about half of last week. Approximately 95% of the week’s cattle weighed more than 600 pounds. Approximately 34% of this week’s weighted average receipts were steers and 66% were heifers. Prices were based on net weights FOB after a 3% shrink or equivalent. There was a 5- to 10-cent slide on calves and 4- to 6-cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Delivered prices include freight, commissions and other expenses. Any current sales allow up to 14 days for delivery.

Steers: 3,000 head, 34%, medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 750 to 800 lbs., 154.00 to 155.35; 850 to 875 lbs., 145.00 to 147.00, value enhanced 155.00. Delivered prices 800 lbs., 150.50 to 154.00. Future delivery, FOB price, 650 lbs., 162.45 November; 700 to 800 lbs., 155.00 to 157.25 December to January. Delivered price 550 lbs., value enhanced 185.00 November; 750 to 800 lbs., 158.75 December; 800 to 850 lbs., 153.45 to 154.80 December to January. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, FOB price, 500 lbs., 166.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 150.50 to 151.65; 800 to 850 lbs., 146.70. Delivered price 675 lbs., 161.00; 900 lbs., 149.50. Medium and large frame 2, FOB price, 800 lbs., 145.75.

Heifers: 5,800 head, 66%, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 700 to 750 lbs., 144.50 to 149.35. Delivered price 700 lbs., 149.50. Future delivery FOB 650 to 700 lbs., 152.75 to 154.45 November to January; 700 to 750 lbs., 146.10 to 150.25 October to February. Delivered price 550 lbs., value enhanced 176.00 November; 650 to 700 lbs., 152.10 to 155.00 December to February; 700 to 775 lbs., 149.00 to 153.70 October to February. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Future delivery, delivered price 650 lbs., 155.00 November. Medium and large frame 2, Future delivery, delivered price 650 lbs., 150.25 October to November.
