Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 456 head on Aug. 26, compared to 562 head last week, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, there was not enough comparable sales of feeder steers or heifers for a market trend. Trade activity was light to moderate on moderate demand. A few calves were available in the offering and continue to be a high interest point. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady compared to last week’s limited test. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 15% with less than 1% replacements and 85% feeders. The feeder supply included 36% steers and bulls, 64% heifers. Approximately 45% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 500 to 550 lbs., 165.00 to 166.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 151.00 to 157.00; lot 777 lbs., 147.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 277 lbs., 212.00; few 546 lbs., 162.00; few 708 lbs., 145.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 521 lbs., 147.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 769 lbs., 131.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 166.00 to 174.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 534 lbs., 134.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 355 lbs., 187.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 156.00 to 163.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 250 to 300 lbs., 169.00 to 171.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 165.00 to 171.00; 500 to 600 lbs., full 138.75 to 142.50; lot 678 lbs., 141.50; few 722 lbs., full 132.50; lot 773 lbs., 140.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 418 lbs., 156.00; few 715 lbs., 128.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 550 to 600 lbs., 125.00 to 127.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75% to 80% lean, 1200 to 1500 lbs., 84.75. Boning, 80% to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 83.50 to 87.25; high dressing, 92.00; low dressing, 82.50. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 87.50; low dressing, 77.50 to 80.00. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 74.25.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1600 to 2025 lbs., 96.50 to 101.25; high dressing, 1750 to 2190 lbs., 103.00 to 108.00; low dressing, 1510 to 1800 lbs., 86.50 to 89.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 800 to 900 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred 1050.00 to 1135.00/head.
