The first annual Water and Weeds Tour will take place Sept. 24 at the UNL West Central Research & Extension Center in North Platte, Neb. The bus tour will take participants to field sites in riparian and rangeland areas to view current research on invasive and noxious weeds being conducted by Steve Young, Ph.D., UNL weed ecologist. A discussion led by Doug Hallum, UNL hydrogeologist, will focus on water needs for developing a man-made pond. After a catered lunch, the tour will return to WCREC to view greenhouse and lab research on invasive plants under various stress conditions related to water in order to understand how to develop long-term management strategies.
