Pratt livestock feeder cattle sales report

The Pratt Livestock Feeder Cattle Auction, Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 1,974 head, on Sept. 26, compared to 2,046 head, last week and 1,896 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, feeder steers weighing 700 to 950 pounds were trading $5 to $8 higher, feeder heifers weighing 650 to 900 pounds were $1 to $4 higher. The trade was very active and the demand was very good for true yearling cattle. Steer and heifer calves were steady with moderate trade and demand. Slaughter cows compared with last week’s major decline were steady to weak. There was not enough slaughter bulls for a market test. Receipts included 84% for cattle weighing 600 pounds and more, 10% for those weighing 600 pounds and under and the remaining 6% were slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply was 50% steers and 50% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75% to 80% lean, 79.00; low dressing, 71.00 to 73.00. Boners, 80% to 85% lean, 78.00 to 82.0; low dressing, 72.00. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 79.00 to 83.00; low dressing, 70.50 to 77.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, low dressing, 89.50 to 93.00; Yield grade 2 to 3, low dressing, 81.50 to 88.50.
