The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 2,200 head on Sept. 25, compared to 1,643 head last week and 2,159 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were mostly steady and yearlings were not established. The demand was good for calves, especially weaned calves in thin to average flesh. Recent gains in futures and feeder cattle markets provided support for calf prices this week. Heifers made up 42% of offerings and calves weighing more than 600 pounds made up 38%. Slaughter cows were $3 to $5 lower and slaughter bulls were not established. The packer demand was moderate at best but the overall quality of offerings was very poor. A total of 254 cows and bulls was sold with 40% going to packers.
