Lonesome Pine wins 3 events on way to KCRR title

Lonesome Pine Ranch of Cedar Point was the winning ranch rodeo team at the Kansas Championship Ranch Rodeo, Sept. 27 to 28 in Medicine Lodge. The team won the bronc riding, cattle doctoring and wild cow milking on the way to the championship. Members of the team were Bud, Frank, Makenzie and Troy Higgs; Chris Potter; and Brian Peak. Lonesome Pine Ranch is located in southwestern Chase County and is owned by the Higgs family.

Second place overall was the Arndt and Bailey team from Emporia and Cottonwood Falls. Robbins Ranch and Massey Cattle Company of Chase County and Eureka finished third.

Other individual event winners include Lazy B and Huseman of Ellsworth in the team penning and Robbins and Massey in the calf branding.

Lonesome Pine’s Potter was the all-around cowboy. QR I’ll Be Red Now, owned and ridden by T.J. Haden with the Haden Ranch at Cedar Vale, was judged as the top horse.

The Lonesome Pine team already had qualified through a previous event for the World Championship Ranch Rodeo in Amarillo. That rolls Arndt and Bailey into the automatic WCRR qualifying spot reserved for the KCRR winner.

Twelve teams competed in the event, which marked the 25th anniversary of KCRR.
