Ada livestock auction report

The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 2,041 head on Oct. 2, compared to 2,200 head last week and 1,954 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, cattle and calves were generally $2 to $3 higher. The demand was very good for all classes. There was an improved outlook for wheat pasture and lower grains supporting calf and feeder markets. Buyers were competing for supplies. and the overall quality was average to attractive. Flesh conditions were average to fleshy. Heifers made up 45% of the supply and cattle weighing more than 600 pounds comprised 35% of the total. Slaughter cows were steady, but the bulls were not established. The packer demand was moderate. The demand was good for stock cows and thin grazing cows. There were 370 cows and bulls sold with about 40% going to packers.

Lean, 24 head, 85% to 90% lean, 1040 to 1300 lbs., 77.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 69.00 to 75.00. Lights, 25 head, 85% to 90% lean, 750 to 995 lbs., 73.00; low dressing, 63.00 to 67.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 21 head, 1350 to 2100 lbs., 100.00 to 104.00; low dressing, 92.00 to 96.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 7 years old, 1080 to 1620 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average black 1260.00 to 1420.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 7 years old, 995 to 1540 lbs., with 95- to 385-lb. calves, average black 1475.00 to 1800.00.
