AG CONNECT will become part of the Commodity Classic beginning in 2016. The National Corn Growers Association, the American Soybean Association and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers made the announcement at a joint press conference on Oct. 22.
Commodity Classic is a joint venture owned by NCGA and ASA with the National Association of Wheat Growers and National Sorghum Producers participating as affiliates. AG CONNECT is owned and operated by AEM, which is the North American-based international trade group for the off-road equipment manufacturing industry. This includes agriculture, construction, forestry, mining and utility.
“The visions of the Commodity Classic and AG CONNECT are consistent,” said Bill Schuermann, ASA executive director of member and industry relations. “They both focus on quality over quantity.”
The inaugural event will be in March 2016 in New Orleans. Schuermann said the Commodity Classic show scheduled for 2014 and 2015 would take place as planned. After 2016, the combined shows will continue to meet on an annual basis.
“It is great news for our growers,” said Martin Barbre, NCGA president. “It will provide them with so much more to see and do at Commodity Classic. As a farmer I can’t wait to see what 2016 will bring.”
The two shows are known for offering valuable education sessions, innovations exhibited on the show floor, and unparalleled peer-to-peer networking. These values will be maintained and improved with the collaboration between Commodity Classic and AG CONNECT.
“We both value the power of education and of top-quality interaction among attendees and exhibitors on the show floor,” said Danny Murphy, ASA president. “Commodity Classic will remain a farmer-led and farmer-focused event as it moves forward with our new partner.”
NCGA and ASA combined their annual meetings in 1996 to form the Commodity Classic. NAWG joined as an affiliate in 2007 and NSP joined in 2009. The evolution of this annual event will continue in 2016 as it begins a joint venture with AG CONNECT.
