Amarillo livestock sales report

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,335 head on Oct. 21, compared to 1,126 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

There was no recent report for a comparison of trends on any class of cattle. The trade activity and demand were moderate to good. The typical fall sales have begun with many drafts of calves and there was a limited selection of yearlings. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 11% of the stock, 3% were replacements and 86% were feeders. The feeder supply included 60% steers and bulls and 40% were heifers. Approximately 64% of the run weighed more than 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 450 to 500 lbs., 189.50 to 196.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 161.50 to 169.00; 600 to 700 lb. calves 155.00 to 161.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 163.50 to 167.50, calves 145.50 to 151.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 390 lbs., 190.00; few 630 lb. calves 156.50; few 833 lbs., 146.50. Medium and large frame 2, lot 700 lbs., 142.00; lot 808 lbs., 140.25.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 450 lbs., 189.00; few 528 lbs., 160.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 149.00 to 159.00; few 636 lbs., 150.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 139.50 to 144.00; 700 to 725 lbs., 133.00 to 140.00; few 810 lbs., 121.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 410 lbs., 152.00; few 565 lbs., 141.00; few 664 lbs., 133.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 327 lbs., 196.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 177.00 to 186.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 150.00 to 161.00; 600 to 650 lb. calves 145.00 to 153.00; 650 to 700 lb. calves 140.50 to 145.50; load 702 lbs., 159.00; few 810 lb. calves 132.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 289 lbs., 171.00; few 402 lbs., 159.00; few 551 lbs., 151.00. Medium and large frame 2, lot 659 lbs., 130.00; lot 729 lbs., 130.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75% to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 79.00 to 81.00; low dressing, 74.50. Boning, 80% to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 79.00 to 84.25; high dressing, 85.50 to 87.50; low dressing, 73.50 to 78.75. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 80.50 to 84.50; high dressing, 86.75 to 87.00; low dressing, 74.75 to 77.50; 85% to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 78.00 to 80.75; high dressing, 84.75; low dressing, 77.00 to 78.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1750 to 1900 lbs., 95.75 to 97.50; high dressing, 1780 to 2120 lbs., 98.00 to 105.50; low dressing, 1400 to 1950 lbs., 87.00 to 90.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to aged, 950 to 1400 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred 1250.00 to 1375.00; short and solid, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred 1225.00 to 1250.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 900 lbs., with 75-lb. calf 1125.00; short and solid 1300 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves 1360.00.
