Arkansas livestock auction summary

The summary of livestock auctions in Arkansas for the week ending on Oct. 18, showed estimated receipts of 5,258 head, compared to 7,165 head last week and 7,419 head last year, according to the USDA to Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, the slaughter cows and bulls were sold mostly steady to $3 higher. Feeder steers and heifers were traded mostly $3 to $10 higher. There was a very good demand on lighter weight calves. The supply included 5,258 stocker and feeder calves, 2,707 feeder yearlings, 1,688 replacement cows, 304 slaughter cows and 477 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 38% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75% to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 74.00 to 84.00; high dressing, 83.00 to 86.50; low dressing, 69.00 to 73.50. Boners, 80% to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 73.00 to 80.00; high dressing, 81.00 to 90.75; low dressing, 73.00 to 77.50. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 70.00 to 78.00; high dressing, 78.00 to 85.50; low dressing, 64.00 to 70.00. Light, 85% to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 60.00 to 70.00; low dressing, 54.00 to 60.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 89.00 to 99.50; high dressing, 98.00 to 100.50; low dressing, 80.00 to 82.00.
