Douglas County livestock auction report

The Douglas County Livestock Auction, Ava, Mo., on Oct. 10, reported receipts of 923 head, compared to 1,159 head last week and 966 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, all weights of steers and heifers were steady to $2 higher. The demand was good and the supply was light. The feeder offerings were around 50% steers and bulls, 8% Holsteins and 42% heifers. Those offerings weighing more than 600 pounds were around 38%. Cows represented about 23% of the sales. The slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 250 to 300 lbs., 203.00 to 209.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 180.00 to 195.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 180.00 to 189.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 169.50 to 184.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 159.50 to 169.50; package fancy 624 lbs., 172.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 145.00 to 166.00; 800 to 835 lbs., 135.00 to 145.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 150.00 to 179.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 153.50 to 170.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 145.00 to 159.00; package 778 lbs., 147.50. Feeder Holsteins, large frame 3, package 541 120.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 110.00 to 116.50; package 894 lbs., 92.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 280 lbs., 168.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 150.00 to 160.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 149.00 to 156.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 145.50 to 153.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 158.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 140.00 to 155.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 140.00 to 149.00; 600 to 630 lbs., 140.00 to 150.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, package 523 159.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 567 lbs., 140.00; 600 to 615 lbs., 139.00 to 147.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 70% to 80% lean, 79.00 to 82.50. Boning, 80% to 85% lean, 77.00 to 82.50; high dressing, 83.00 to 89.50; low dressing, 70.00 to 75.50, outstanding 92.00 to 100.00. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 72.50 to 79.50; high dressing, 80.00 to 83.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 69.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1105 to 1985 lbs., 94.50 to 100.00; high dressing, 101.00 to 106.50; low dressing, 73.00 to 88.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years to 7 years 1065 to 1305 lbs., 1st to 3rd stage 1175.00 to 1425.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 2 years to 6 years old, 1300 to 1435 lbs., with 225- to 375-lb. calves at side and some cows bred back in first stage 1750.00 to 1875.00/pair. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 years to broken mouth 1050 to 1375 lbs., baby to 375-lb. calves at side 1250.00 to 1550.00/pair. Large frame 1, 6 years to short solid 1350 to 1655 lbs., with baby to 150-lb. calves at side 1525.00 to 1635.00/pair.
