Bowling Green livestock auction report


The Bowling Green, Eastern Missouri Commission Co., Bowling Green, Mo., reported receipts of 764 head on Oct. 4, compared to 1,709 head last week and 825 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, the steers, heifers and calves were mostly steady, but the yearlings were poorly tested. The demand was moderate to good. The supply was light and mostly were calves. Nearly 27% were steers and bulls, 48% were heifers, 25% were cows and 22% of the feeders were mostly heifers weighing more than 600 pounds. The slaughter cows were mostly steady.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, small packages 400 to 500 lbs., 183.00 to 202.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 171.00 to 175.00; 600 to 675 lbs., 163.50 to 167.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 460 lbs., 180.00; 500 to 575 lbs., 166.00 to 170.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, small packages 400 to 500 lbs., 166.00 to 178.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 150.50 to 164.50; 626 to 675 lbs., 146.50 to 155.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 425 to 450 lbs., 162.00 to 166.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 143.50 to 154.50; load 887 lbs., 134.75 and load 970 lbs., 125.10.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 485 lbs., 177.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 150.00 to 167.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 70% to 80% lean, 80.00 to 85.00, few 85.00 to 85.50; low dressing, 73.50 to 78.50. Boners, 80% to 85% lean, 80.00 85.00; high dressing, 85.00 to 87.00; low dressing, 70.00 to 78.50, few 87.50 to 89.50. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 70.00 to 76.50; high dressing, 76.50 to 79.50; low dressing, 63.00 to 70.00, few 55.00 to 63.00 shelly.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 2200 lbs., 93.00 to 97.00; high dressing, 97.00 to 100.00; low dressing, 85.50 to 91.00.
