Callaway livestock auction report

The Callaway Livestock Center, Kingdom City, Mo., reported receipts of 1,212 head on Oct. 7, compared to 1,561 head last week and 1,475 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Kingdom City, Mo.

Compared to last week, the steers and heifers were mostly steady. The demand was moderate to good. The supply was light, mostly 450- to 750-pound offerings. The sale included nearly 61% steers and bulls, 29% heifers and 10% cows. About 34% of the feeders weighed more than 600 pounds. The slaughter cows were steady to firm.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, small package 345 lbs., 211.00; few 375 to 400 lbs., 196.00 to 204.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 183.00 to 198.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 170.00 to 190.00, few packages fleshy unweaned 158.00 to 169.00; 600 to 675 lbs., 169.00 to 174.25, few fleshy unweaned 155.00 to 163.00; 700 to 775 lbs., 168.00 to 172.75; two packages 835 lbs., 163.50 to 165.00; load 902 lbs., 153.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 450 to 500 lbs., 168.00 to 179.00; 625 to 675 lbs., 163.00 to 169.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, small packages 350 to 400 lbs., 178.50 to 188.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 163.00 to 178.50; 500 to 550 lbs., 157.00 to 169.50; package and lot 645 to 690 lbs., 158.25 to 159.50, package unweaned 605 lbs., 149.00; package and lot 740 lbs., 145.75 to 150.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 450 to 500 lbs., 160.00 to 170.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 160.50 to 161.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 148.00 to 158.00, package thin 163.00; lot 710 lbs., 149.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, small packages 445 to 490 lbs., 166.00 to 179.00; package 525 lbs., 165.00; package 635 lbs., 151.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 475 to 500 lbs., 161.00 to 170.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 144.00 to 157.00; package 605 lbs., 150.00; package 710 lbs., 129.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 70% to 80% lean, 75.00 to 80.00 few 81.50 to 86.75 few 70.50 to 74.50. Boners, 80% to 85% lean, 75.00 to 80.00, few 81.50 to 84.50, individual 89.00. Lean, 85% to 90%, few 71.00 to 77.00, few 55.00 to 65.00.

Stocker/feeder cows: Thin to moderately fleshed 1000 to 1400 lbs., 77.00 to 87.00, few 87.00 to 93.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 to 2, 1500 to 1900 lbs., few 88.50 to 90.75; low dressing, 85.00 to 86.00.
