Amarillo livestock sales summary


The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,227 head on Oct. 28, compared to 1,335 head last week and 1,644 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were lightly tested and there was not enough comparable sales for a trend. The steer and heifer calves were steady. The trade activity was moderate on moderate to good demand. The offering included a load of yearling heifers weighing about 700 pounds and the remainder consisted of small drafts of calves. The slaughter cows and bulls sold $1 to $3 lower. The slaughter cows and bulls made up 5% of the sale with 1% replacements and 94% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 42% steers and bulls and 58% heifers. Nearly 60% of the run weighed more than 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 372 lbs., 226.00; few 414 lbs., 209.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 192.00 to 194.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 164.25 to 174.00, few 566 lbs., fleshy 157.50; 600 to 700 lb. calves 152.00 to 162.25; 700 to 775 lb. calves or fleshy 145.00 to 151.00; lot 833 lb. calves 142.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 523 lbs., 167.00; 600 to 650 lb. calves 150.00 to 152.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 145.00 to 150.00. Medium and large frame 2 few 625 lbs., 145.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 500 to 550 lbs., 158.00 to 159.00; few 592 lbs., 144.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 135.00 to 139.00; lot 749 lbs., 125.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 116.00 to 122.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 521 lbs., 151.00; few 708 lbs., 124.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 320 lbs., 198.00; lot 406 lbs., 187.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 163.50 to 170.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 151.00 to 163.50; 600 to 650 lb. calves 148.00 to 149.00; 650 to 700 lb. calves 135.00 to 143.00; 700 to 775 lb. calves 136.50 to 139.00; lot 786 lbs., 144.00; few 1077 lbs., 124.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 155.00 to 165.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 149.00 to 155.00; few 636 lb. calves 146.00; lot 680 lbs., 153.00; load 709 lbs., 147.50, 700 to 750 lb. calves 138.00 to 138.75; lot 800 lbs., 144.00. Medium and large frame 2, lot 733 lbs., 136.75. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 627 lbs., 135.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75% to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 70.00 to 75.00. Boning, 80% to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 78.00 to 81.00. Lean, 85% to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 76.25 to 78.25; low dressing, 70.00 to 74.00; 85% to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 67.50 to 70.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, low dressing, 1650 to 1850 lbs., 85.00 to 86.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, aged to short and solid, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred 1110.00 to 1210.00.
