Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 1,912 head April 25, compared to 2,043 head last week and 1,649 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $3 higher. Not enough steer or heifer calves in the previous sale for an adequate market trend. Trade activity and demand were moderate to good. The bulk of the offering consisted of plain to attractive steers weighing over 750 pounds. Slaughter cows were steady with slaughter bulls not well tested. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 5%, 1% replacements and 94% feeders. The supply included 76% steers and bulls, 24% heifers, with approximately 86% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1 half load 433 lbs., 179.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 154.00 to 164.00; few 635 lbs., 151.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 138.50 to 140.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 132.50 to 136.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 128.00 to 130.50; 850 to 900 lbs., 126.75 to 129.50, lot 883 lbs., fleshy 120.00; load 934 lbs., 122.00; load 958 lbs., 116.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 550 to 600 lbs., 144.00 to 150.50; lot 672 lbs., 136.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 129.50 to 133.25, few 788 lbs., fleshy 125.50; few 803 lbs., fleshy 120.00; few 940 lbs., 118.50, couple loads 901 lbs., thin fleshed 126.50; few 974 lbs., 116.25, 950 to 975 lbs., fleshy 108.00 to 111.75. Medium and large frame 2, lot 894 lbs., 112.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 391 lbs., 182.00; lot 495 lbs., 163.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 143.50 to 145.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 376 lbs., 180.00; lot 401 lbs., 172.75; 450 to 500 lbs., 154.25 to 159.25; 500 to 600 lbs., 139.00 to 149.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 132.50 to 134.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 126.00 to 129.00, few 675 lbs., fleshy 122.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 122.00 to 127.50; few 881 lbs., 117.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 650 lbs., 125.00 to 127.00; lot 700 lbs., 122.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 118.50 to 120.00, few 778 lbs., fleshy 112.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 73.00 to 77.00; low dressing, 66.00 to 70.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 77.00 to 80.75; high dressing, 81.00 to 83.25; low dressing, 70.00 to 75.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 77.00 to 80.00; high dressing, 81.00 to 82.75; low dressing, 70.00 to 74.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 75.50 to 78.00; high dressing, 81.00; low dressing, 69.00 to 70.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, low dressing, individual, 2225 lbs., 84.50.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged to aged, 1100 to 1300 lbs., with 75- to 250-lb. calves, 1100.00 to 1325.00/pair; middle-aged individual, 900 lbs., with 75-lb. calf, 1000.00/pair.
