Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 966 head, April 29, compared to 1,386 head last week and 696 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold with a higher undertone on limited comparable sales. Trade activity and demand were moderate to good. The area remained dry with little chance of moisture this week. Slaughter cows were steady to weak with slaughter bulls not well tested. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 5%, 1% replacements and 94% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 54% steers and bulls, with 46% heifers. Approximately 66% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 451 lbs., 178.00; few 518 lbs., 169.00; few 602 lbs., 158.00; few 685 lbs., 144.00; 700 to 725 lbs., 137.50 to 139.00; few 800 lbs., 127.50; load 899 lbs., 120.75; lot 967 lbs., 119.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2 few 507 lbs., 149.50; lot 765 lbs., 128.50; few 861 lbs., 120.00; few 904 lbs., 116.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 350 to 400 lbs., 136.00 to 139.50; few 678 lbs., 127.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 450 lbs., 167.00 to 171.00; few 577 lbs., 144.00; few 615 lbs., 140.50; few 765 lbs., 123.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 386 lbs., 157.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 148.00 to 157.50; few 525 lbs., 145.00; few 588 lbs., 135.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 125.50 to 132.00; 750 to 775 lbs., 123.00 to 124.00; few 892 lbs., 114.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 368 lbs., 153.50; few 460 lbs., 150.00; lot 680 lbs., 123.50; load 740 lbs., 124.75; few 766 lbs., 116.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 297 lbs., 125.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 73.00 to 74.50; low dressing, 67.75. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 79.50; high dressing, 81.00 to 81.50; low dressing, 72.50 to 72.75. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 80.00 to 81.00; low dressing, 68.00 to 70.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 74.00 to 76.25; low dressing, 64.00 to 68.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, individual 1500 lbs., 91.50; low dressing, individual 1465 lbs., 89.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to aged, 900 to 1100 lbs., 1 to 9 months bred, 810.00 to 910.00; aged individual, 1200 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred, 975.00/head.
