Lexington livestock market report


The Lexington Livestock Market, Lexington, Neb., reported receipts of 1,670 head April 26, compared to 175 head last week and 2,675 head last year, according to the Nebraska Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Kearney, Neb.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers on comparable offerings sold $4 to $6 higher. Demand was moderate from a light crowd of buyers. Most offerings sold in small packages. The supply included 74% feeders, balance on slaughter cattle and pairs. Of the feeders, 34% were steers with nearly 81% of the run over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers:

Medium and large frame 1, 21 head, 501 lbs., 174.50; 600 to 602 lbs., 160.50 to 164.50 (164.23); 36 head, 695 lbs., 152.50; 5 head, 732 lbs., 143.00; 21 head, 765 lbs., 136.00; 823 to 833 lbs., 130.50 to 134.25 (134.03); 902 to 937 lbs., 127.50 to 129.25 (128.69). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 345 lbs., 190.00; 8 head, 468 lbs., 179.00; 20 head, 516 to 537 lbs., 160.00 to 167.25 (163.92); 14 head, 560 lbs., 150.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 349 lbs., 164.50; 15 head, 433 lbs., 155.50; 488 to 496 lbs., 154.25 to 154.75 (154.54); 500 to 515 lbs., 150.00 to 153.25 (152.64); 600 to 635 lbs., 137.50 to 145.75 (140.36); 691 to 697 lbs., 132.50 to 133.35 (133.28); 710 to 735 lbs., 130.00 to 131.50 (131.01); 801 to 814 lbs., 125.00 to 127.70 (127.43); 858 to 881 lbs., 124.00 to 124.85 (124.62); 900 to 903 lbs., 123.00 to 123.50 (123.05). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 12 head, 772 lbs., 125.50.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 4 years old, 1280 to 1290 lbs., thin with 160- to 220-lbs., calves 1525.00 to 1600.00. Solid mouth, 1570 lbs., with 170-lb. calves 1485.00. Short solid mouth, 1520 lbs., with 175-lb. calves 1435.00. Running age, 1260 to 1340 lbs., with 150- to 175-lb. calves 1110.00 to 1250.00.

Fall bred cows: September and October calving, Medium and large frame 1, 3 to 4 years old, 1200 lbs., 1190.00. Solid Mouth, 1230 to 1275 lbs., 1045.00 to 1075.00.

Baby calves: Mix sexes, Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 200 to 245 lbs., 450.00 to 525.00; 120- to 190-lbs., 335.00 to 375.00; 55- to 95-lbs., 200.00 to 235.00.
