Pratt livestock auction report

The Pratt Livestock Feeder Cattle Auction, Pratt, Kan., reported 3,105 head, April 26, compared to 3,571 head, last week and 5,006 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers at 700 to 900 pounds were firm to $4 higher, while those at 900 pounds and over were $4 to $6 higher with instances of $8 higher on reputation cattle. Feeder heifers at 650 to 950 pounds were $1 to $3 higher. Steers weighing 700 pounds and under and also heifers at 650 pounds and under were steady to higher as undertones were noted on a light test of medium and large frame 1. Trade and demand were very good on feeder cattle. Slaughter cows and bulls were $1 to $2 lower. Receipts included 72% 600 pounds and over, 10% 600 pounds and under and 18% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply was 60% steers and 40% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 75.50 to 79.00; low dressing, 68.50 to 73.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 74.50 to 79.50; high dressing, 82.50; low dressing, 71.50 to 74.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 74.50 to 79.50; low dressing, 70.00 to 74.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 97.00 to 104.00; low dressing, 91.50 to 96.00; Yield grade 3, 83.50 to 88.50.
