Newell sheep sales report


St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 631 head April 25, compared to 1,066 head last week and 284 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, good slaughter ewes sold steady, Utility and Cull ewes sold $2 to $3 higher, old crop feeder lambs sold on a higher undertone, Bred ewes sold $10 per head lower. Good demand for slaughter ewes, feeder lambs, and bred ewes which sold on an active market. offering consisted of 27% feeder lambs, 42% bred ewes, 31% slaughter ewes and bucks.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 16 head, 147 lbs., 26.00; 15 head, 170 lbs. 22.00. Good 3 to 4, fleshy, 11 head, 201 lbs., 18.50. Utility 1 to 2, Medium, 32 head, 149 lbs., 20.50. Cull 1, Thin, 30 head, 133 lbs., 15.50.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large 1 to 2, 12 head, 69 lbs., 98.00 Short Docks; 112 head, 79 lbs., 97.00 Old Crop; 8 head, 73 lbs., 98.00 Short Docks. Medium frame 1 to 2. 6 head, 58 lbs., 84.00 old crop; 20 head, 63 lbs., 86.00 Old Crop.

Replacement ewes: Medium and large 1 to 2, Whiteface, 247 head, 163 lbs., 6 years old, due May 10 89.00 to 105.00; 15 head, 157 lbs., Broken, due now 57.50.
