McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,150 head April 22, compared to 1,200 head last week and 1,150 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steers sold very uneven and steady to $2 higher. Heifers under 500 pounds steady to $3 lower, over 500 pounds were $2 to $6 lower. Quality was average through attractive. The supply includes 22% over 600 pounds, with 53% heifers. Slaughter cows were $3 to $4 lower. Slaughter bulls steady. Packer demand was moderate. A total of 315 cows and bulls sold with 54% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 26 head, 1300 to 2150 lbs., 99.00 to 102.00; high dressing, 104.00 to 107.00; low dressing, 93.00 to 97.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 900 to 1175 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average quality 820.00 to 970.00; 1 to 4 years old, 950 to 1125 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 780.00 to 925.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1325 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average to high quality 930.00 to 1075.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1075 to 1350 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 960.00 to 1025.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 4 years old, 900 to 1000 lbs., with 75- to 175-lb. calves, average to high quality 960.00 to 1185.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1025 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, average to high quality 1000.00 to 1310.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1000 to 1300 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, average to high quality 1060.00 to 1210.00.
