Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 2,767 head May 9, compared to 2,184 head last week and 2,942 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold $3 to $7 lower. Calves were not well tested. Trade activity and demand were moderate. Offering included many loads of yearlings weighing over 700 pounds coming off of wheat. This week has been another struggle for the CME feeder cattle futures. Slaughter cows sold steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were not well tested last week but a higher undertone was noted. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 3%, 1% replacements and 96% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 54% steers and bulls, 46% heifers. Approximately 94% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 214 lbs., 209.00; few 614 lbs., 151.50; 650 to 700 lbs., 139.00 to 140.50; 700 to 775 lbs., 131.00 to 136.50, few 733 lbs., fleshy 129.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 124.75 to 126.50; 850 to 900 lbs., 117.25 to 123.00; 900 to 975 lbs., 116.00 to 119.00; 1000 to 1075 lbs., 115.50 to 117.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 614 lbs., 146.00; few 768 lbs., 130.50, few 778 lbs., fleshy 121.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 120.50 to 123.50; few 935 lbs., 117.25, 900 to 975 lbs., fleshy 113.00 to 115.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, lot 614 lbs., 134.50; lot 761 lbs., 125.50.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 479 lbs., 152.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 149.50 to 150.50; 650 to 700 lbs., 120.00 to 128.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 202 lbs., 186.00; few 370 lbs., 163.00; 400 to 425 lbs., 159.00 to 161.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 147.00 to 148.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 134.00 to 140.00; 600 to 625 lbs., 133.00 to 134.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 125.00 to 128.75; 700 to 750 lbs., 125.00 to 127.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 120.00 to 122.50, few 753 lbs., fleshy 115.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 114.50 to 119.00; 900 to 925 lbs., 114.25 to 114.50. Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 73.00 to 75.00; high dressing, 78.00; low dressing, 65.00 to 70.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 75.00 to 79.50; high dressing, 80.00 to 84.00; low dressing, 71.50 to 74.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 80.00 to 82.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 78.50; low dressing, 62.50 to 67.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1545 to 1725 lbs., 93.00 to 97.00; low dressing, 1315 to 1540 lbs., 90.00 to 91.50; high dressing, individual 2350 lbs., 102.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to aged, 1000 to 1350 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred, 950.00 to 1100.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged to aged, 1300 to 1600 lbs., with 150- to 300-lb. calves, 1300.00 to 1440.00/pair.
