Clovis livestock auction summary

The Clovis Livestock Auction Summary, Clovis, N.M., reported receipts of 2,421 head May 8, compared to 1,873 head last week and 3,177 head last year, according to the New Mexico Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Clovis, N.M.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $1 higher. Heifers were steady to $1 lower. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. Trade was active and demand good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows were 16% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, bred cows 6%, pairs 27%, feeders 49%. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 42% of the run, feeder bulls 6%, heifers 52%, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 40%.

Feeder cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 835 to 995 lbs., 64.00 to 73.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 920 to 1520 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 910.00 to 1250.00, few young 800 to 1060 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 760.00 to 880.00/head; middle-aged, 1210 to 1322 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 900.00 to 950.00/head; aged, package 1087 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 800.00/head.
