McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 400 head Feb. 26, compared to 1,000 head last week and 1,260 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, limited sales due to weather, calves not well tested in each weight groups. Steer and heifer calves lightly tested and mostly a lower undertone noted. Quality average to attractive. The supply includes 24% over 600 pounds with 46% heifers. Slaughter cows not well tested. Slaughter bulls were $6 higher in a very light test. A total of 55 cows and bulls sold with 34% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 300 to 350 lbs., 200.00 to 222.00 (207.51); 5 head, 350 to 400 lbs., 185.00 to 198.00 (189.63); 13 head, 400 to 450 lbs., 179.00 to 191.00 (183.92); 7 head, 450 to 500 lbs., 171.00 to 184.00 (175.95); 16 head, 500 to 550 lbs., 164.00 to 177.00 (172.53); 550 to 600 lbs., 146.00 to 159.00 (156.47); 19 head, 600 to 650 lbs., 148.00 to 155.00 (151.29); 7 head, 650 to 700 lbs., 137.00 to 141.00 (139.30); 5 head, 700 to 750 lbs., 131.00 to 135.00 (133.17); 5 head, 750 to 800 lbs., 134.00. Medium and large frame 2, 8 head, 400 to 450 lbs., 166.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 6 head, 300 to 350 lbs., 173.00 to 186.00 (178.19); 14 head, 350 to 400 lbs., 162.00 to 175.00 (166.70); 400 to 450 lbs., 157.00 to 168.00 (163.81); 13 head, 450 to 500 lbs., 156.00 to 168.00 (163.23); 14 head, 500 to 550 lbs., 154.00 to 165.00 (161.49); 17 head, 550 to 600 lbs., 139.00 to 150.00 (146.44); 11 head, 600 to 650 lbs., 135.00 to 140.00 (137.05); 7 head, 700 to 750 lbs., 128.00 to 132.00 (130.24).

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 1 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1950 lbs., 84.00. Boners, 4 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 83.00 to 86.00. Light, 3 head, 80 to 90% lean, 750 to 950 lbs., 79.00 to 82.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 11 head, 1400 to 2200 lbs., 105.00 to 109.00; high dressing, 110.00 to 111.00; low dressing, 80.00 to 89.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 1175 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average quality 1180.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1025 to 1250 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average to high quality 1295.00 to 1390.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1000 to 1050 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality 970.00 to 980.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 975 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 125-lb. calves, high quality 1250.00 to 1400.00; 5 to 8 years old, 950 to 1150 lbs., with 50- to 200-lb. calves, average to high quality 1100.00 to 1280.00.
