Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 300 head Feb. 25, compared to 513 head last week and 763 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $5 higher. Slaughter bulls were $5 lower. Feeder steers and heifers were $2 to $6 lower. The supply included 159 feeder calves, 80 feeder yearlings, 24 replacement cows, 30 slaughter cows, 6 slaughter bulls, and 1 replacement bull. The feeder supply consisted of about 50% English breed and English crosses, 25% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 25% Brahma and Brahma crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 76.00 to 80.50; high dressing, 81.00 to 85.00; low dressing, 71.00 to 75.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 80.00 to 84.60; high dressing, 85.00 to 89.50; low dressing, 75.00 to 79.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 78.00 to 82.50; high dressing, 83.00 to 87.00; low dressing, 73.00 to 77.50. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 60.00 to 65.50; high dressing, 66.00 to 70.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1 310 to 330 lbs., 196.00 to 198.00 (196.69); 410 to 430 lbs., 181.00 to 190.00 (185.34); 455 to 483 lbs., 170.00 to 175.00 (173.29); 500 to 535 lbs., 163.00 to 170.00 (166.14); 550 to 590 lbs., 158.00 to 161.00 (158.49); 605 to 625 lbs., 151.00 to 158.00 (153.69); 670 to 670 lbs., 137.00 to 141.00 (139.00). Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 7 years old, 950 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves 1060.00 to 1250.00/pair; 5 to 7 years old, 900 to 1000 lbs., with 200- to 300-lb. calves 1075.00 to 1350.00/pair.
