Tulia livestock auction report


The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 1,413 head Feb. 21, compared to 628 head last week and 1,410 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week's light test, feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady. Steers and heifer calves sold with a higher undertone after the area received moisture in the form of snow. Trade activity was fairly active on moderate to good demand especially on calves that could go back to pastures that are benefitting from the recent moisture. Slaughter cows were steady to firm. Slaughter bulls not well tested last week. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 4%, less than 1% replacements, 95% feeders. The feeder supply included 56% steers and 44% heifers, with approximately 61% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1 few 250 lbs., 216.00; 300 to 350 lbs., 212.00 to 216.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 196.75 to 197.00; lot 485 lbs., 185.25; lot 510 lbs., 174.50; 550 to 600 lbs., 152.00 to 161.25; 600 to 700 lbs., 145.25 to 152.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 134.50 to 135.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 132.50 to 134.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, lot 485 lbs., 180.00; few 679 lbs., 145.25; 750 to 800 lbs., 133.25 to 136.00; lot 808 lbs., fleshy 123.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 921 lbs., 119.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 250 to 300 lbs., 177.00 to 180.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 172.00 to 174.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 166.25 to 172.00; lot 500 lbs., 162.00; lot 568 lbs., 140.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 130.00 to 132.00; load 702 lbs., 127.50, few 735 lb. calves 124.00; load 767 lbs., 131.00; lot 803 lbs., 123.00; couple loads 852 lbs., 119.75, few 897 lbs., fleshy 115.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 858 lbs., fleshy 112.50. Medium and large frame 2, lot 636 lbs., 128.00; lot 774 lbs., 120.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1550 lbs., 77.00 to 81.50; low dressing, 75.50 to 76.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 85.00 to 86.75; high dressing, 87.00 to 88.50; low dressing, 78.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 84.00 to 86.50; high dressing, 87.00; low dressing, 79.00 to 81.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 81.00 to 84.00; high dressing, 86.00; low dressing, 71.00 to 75.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, individual 2385 lbs., 100.00; low dressing, 1395 to 1800 lbs., 94.00 to 96.50.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Middle Aged to Aged, 1100 to 1450 lbs., with 50- to 100-lb. calves 1210.00 to 1385.00.
