Dalhart livestock sales report


The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,298 head Feb. 21, compared to 691 head last week and 3,263 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to week ago, four to twelve inches of snow across trade area made for light receipts and stiff competition for lighter summer grazing calves. Feeder steers under 550 pounds were firm and heifers under 550 pounds were firm to $3 higher. Steers and heifers over 550 pounds were steady to $2 lower. Receipts included mostly thin, weaned calves and several loads of all natural feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $2 higher. Trade and demand was moderate to good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 24% and slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows 0%, and feeders 76%. The feeder supply included 67% steers and 33% heifers, with nearly 73% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 300 to 400 lbs., pre-conditioned 201.00 to 216.00; few 435 lbs., 186.00, 400 to 450 lbs., 191.00 to 196.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 170.00 to 174.00, few 572 lbs., 166.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 146.00 to 150.00; few 700 to 750 lbs., 140.00 to 146.00, two loads 757 lbs., all natural 144.25, three loads 791 lbs., all natural 141.75; 800 to

850 lbs., 133.00 to 136.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 400 lbs., pre-conditioned 171.00; load 518 lbs., thin 162.50; load 619 lbs., thin 142.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 262 lbs., thin 189.00; 300 to 400 lbs., pre-conditioned 171.00 to 179.00; few 439 lbs., pre-conditioned 166.00, few 443 lbs., 153.00; 500 to 550 lbs., pre-conditioned 153.00 to 158.00, few 568 lbs., 145.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 132.00 to 136.00; few 700 to 800 lbs., 130.00 to 132.50, load 723 lbs., all natural 134.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 145.00 to 150.00, lot 460 lbs., pre-conditioned 155.00; few 500 to 600 lbs., thin 141.00 to 149.00; few 700 lbs., 130.50. Medium and large frame 2, few 400 to 500 lbs., 131.00 to 132.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1600 to 1800 lbs., 80.50 to 81.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 74.00 to 82.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 74.00 to 81.00; low dressing, 67.00 to 72.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1600 lbs., not well tested.
