Ada livestock auction report

The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 628 head Feb. 20, compared to 264 head last week and 773 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last test two weeks ago, steer and heifer calves not well tested but few sales near steady. Overall quality of offerings plain to average. Receipts reduced due to much needed snow and rain. Demand was moderate to good despite the weather. Heifers made up 44% of offerings and cattle over 600 pounds comprised 16% of supply. Slaughter cows and bulls not fully established but stronger undertone was noted. Packer demand good but country buyers also making a very strong presence. A total of 132 cows and bulls sold with 38% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 500 to 525 lbs., 164.00 to 177.00 (173.28); 7 head, 661 lbs., 142.50 calves. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 16 head, 418 to 445 lbs., 171.00 to 180.00 (175.58); 464 to 484 lbs., 173.00 to 175.00 (174.35); 9 head, 553 lbs., 150.00. Medium and large frame 2, 7 head, 310 to 340 lbs., 180.00 to 197.00 (184.49); 5 head, 380 to 395 lbs., 174.00 to 188.00 (179.14); 10 head, 413 to 436 lbs., 160.00 to 170.00 (165.87); 9 head, 455 to 490 lbs., 162.00 to 170.00 (165.19).

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 16 head, 664 to 692 lbs., 118.00 to 126.00 (122.23).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 372 to 398 lbs., 177.50 to 181.00 (178.94); 20 head, 403 to 440 lbs., 169.00 to 177.00 (172.91); 7 head, 463 to 493 lbs., 160.00 to 169.00 (164.20); 500 to 545 lbs., 148.00 to 165.00 (158.35); 17 head, 550 to 574 lbs., 143.00 to 153.00 (147.49); 11 head, 610 to 625 lbs., 137.00 to 138.00 (137.37) calves. Medium and large frame 2, 5 head, 256 lbs., 168.00; 8 head, 584 lbs., 136.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 11 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1275 to 1425 lbs., 83.00 to 84.00; low dressing, 78.00. Boners, 8 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1325 lbs., 87.50 to 90.00; high dressing, 94.00 to 96.00; low dressing, 79.00 to 82.00. Lean, 4 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1100 to 1150 lbs., 83.50; low dressing, 73.50. Lights, 9 head, 85 to 90% lean, 700 to 975 lbs., 73.00 to 74.00; low dressing, 71.00; very low dressing, 59.00 to 63.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 12 head, 1300 to 1925 lbs., 102.00 to 104.00; high dressing, 108.00 to 114.00; low dressing, 90.00 to 94.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 years old, 1325 lbs., 7 months bred, high black 1460.00; 6 to 7 years old, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, average black 1190.00 to 1220.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 7 years old, 950 to 1050 lbs., with 150- to 325-lb. calves, high black 1400.00 to 1530.00; 6 to 7 years old, 850 to 1000 lbs., with 75- to 300-lb. calves, average black 1250.00 to 1370.00.
