Texas Direct feeder cattle summary

The Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary, reported receipts of 26,100 head Feb. 22, compared to 3,000 head last week and 21,500 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to the last good test two weeks ago, current FOB feeder steers and heifers were $3 to $8 lower. There were not enough actual comparable sales last week to accurately establish a trend so the comparison was made to two weeks ago. Approximately 97% of this week's cattle weighed over 600 pounds. Approximately 66% of this week's weighted average receipts were steers and 34% heifers. Prices based on net weights FOB after a 3% shrink or equivalent and 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 4 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery.
