KFAC announces postcard art contest winnersKansas Winners of the Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom's postcard art contest have been announced. The student artists will be recognized on March 12 during the Postcard Art and Teacher of the Year celebration, which will be held at the State Department of Agriculture in Topeka. "We're incredibly proud of the artwork sent to us from all over Kansas," said Cathy Musick, executive director of the Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom. "Creating awareness about Kansas agriculture is our mission and goal of KFAC. The artwork is beautiful and we congratulate all students who participated and showed their support of Kansas agriculture." More than 1,300 kindergarten through sixth grade students from 29 counties across the state entered this year's contest by designing a postcard around the theme "Kansas Farmers Help Feed the World." Artwork was judged on relevance to the theme, creativity, originality, use of color, use of space, and clarity of idea and image. A first prize winner was selected from each grade level along with one grand prize winner. Each first prize award recipient will receive $50 in cash and the grand prize winner will receive $100. The winners are invited to attend the award celebration in Topeka where they will have the opportunity to meet Kansas Secretary of Agriculture Dale Rodman, who will present them with their award certificates and prizes. The winners will receive framed copies of their artwork as well as packets of postcards they can share with their families and friends. This year's winners are listed with their hometowns: --Grand prize (fourth grade): Karl Woleslagel, Hutchinson; --Kindergarten: Von Woleslagel, Hutchinson; --First grade: Emily Kasselman, Scott City; --Second grade: Alice Claassen, Newton; --Third grade: Heidi Middleton, Minneapolis; --Fourth grade: Savanna Nichols, Augusta; --Fifth grade: Olivia Yingst, Holton; and --Sixth grade: Emma Wogomon, Tonganoxie.
