Aberdeen livestock auction report

The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, S.D., reported receipts of 4,815 head March 20, compared to 4,912 head last week and 5,824 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, the sale started out much lower. Steers and heifers weighing 500 to 1,000 pounds sold mostly steady during the last part of the sale. The quality was very good to excellent. Many of the offerings showed moderate flesh condition. Also available were substantial numbers of thin-fleshed "green" type cattle that had not been available for quite some time. Active market with moderate demand. Steers 65%, heifers 35%, 93% over 600 pounds.
