Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 735 head March 18, compared to 724 head last week and 579 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were mostly steady. Slaughter bulls were $10 lower. Feeder steers and heifers were $2 to $10 lower. The supply included 323 feeder calves, 300 feeder yearlings, 36 replacement cows, 70 slaughter cows, 6 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 80.00 to 84.50; high dressing, 85.00 to 89.00; low dressing, 75.00 to 79.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 84.00 to 88.50; high dressing, 94.50; low dressing, 79.00 to 83.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 82.00 to 86.50; low dressing, 77.00 to 81.50. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 65.00 to 69.50; high dressing, 70.00 to 74.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 64.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 100.00 to 107.00; low dressing, 86.00 to 90.50.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 7 years old, 600 to 1050 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 925.00 to 1030.00/pair; 3 to 7 years old, 900 to 1000 lbs., with 100- to 225-lb. calves, 1050.00 to 1550.00/pair.
