Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,892 head March 18, compared to 847 head last week and 1,273 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 lower. Calves were not well tested. Trade activity was fairly active on good demand. The offering included many loads of yearlings coming off of local wheat pastures. Slaughter cows and bulls were mostly steady on a light test. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 3%, 2% replacements and 95% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 49% steers and bulls, 51% heifers, with approximately 89% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 522 lbs., 160.00; lot 598 lbs., 149.00; lot 686 lbs., 142.50; 700 to 750 lbs., 137.50 to 141.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 133.50 to 134.75; 800 to 900 lbs., 127.00 to 131.25; 900 to 950 lbs., 122.00 to 127.00; few 998 lbs., 121.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 450 to 500 lbs., 145.00 to 151.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 132.00 to 140.00; few 919 lbs., 121.50; lot 990 lbs., 113.75. Medium and large frame 2, lot 776 lbs., 120.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 488 lbs., 120.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 625 lbs., 131.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 508 lbs., 146.00; few 551 lbs., 135.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 125.00 to 131.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 123.50 to 126.50; 800 to 825 lbs., 122.50 to 123.00; 850 to 900 lbs., 118.50; few 957 lbs., 104.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 448 lbs., 149.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 139.00 to 143.00; lot 686 lbs., 124.00; few 783 lbs., 118.00; loads 822 lbs., 117.50. Medium and large frame 2, few 534 lbs., 130.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 494 lbs., 129.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 79.00 to 79.50; high dressing, 84.00; low dressing, 76.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 81.00 to 85.75; high dressing, 86.50 to 89.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 81.50 to 85.50; high dressing, 86.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 76.50; high dressing, 81.50 to 84.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1620 to 1695 lbs., 101.00 to 103.00; high dressing, individual 1840 lbs., 107.75; low dressing, 1420 to 1940 lbs., 99.50 to 100.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1, young to aged 1200 to 1550 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred 1275.00 to 1485.00/head. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to aged 900 to 1100 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred 860.00 to 1110.00/head. Medium and large frame 2, young to aged, 800 to 1000 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred 800.00 to 835.00/head.
