Ada livestock auction report


The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 885 head March 13, compared to 1,285 head last week and 883 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, calves and feeders were not fully tested, but a steady undertone was noted. Demand was very good for thin grazing cattle and buyers were selective toward quality and condition. Overall quality of offerings was plain to average. Several packages of light cattle off wheat were offered. Recent rainfall and warm weather were beneficial to winter pastures. Heifers made up 56% of offerings and cattle over 600 pounds made up 32% of supply. Slaughter cows were $2 to $3 lower in light test. Slaughter bulls lightly tested, few $1 to $2 lower with upper end of quality not tested. Packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 195 cows and bulls sold with 44% going to packers.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 7 years old, 1100 to 1375 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 1190.00 to 1270.00; 10+ years old, 1075 to 1300 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 970.00 to 1200.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 7 years old, 1050 to 1225 lbs., with 100- to 230-lb. calves, average blacks, 1225.00 to 1300.00; 6 to 8 years old, 1025 to 1150 lbs., with 200- to 300-lb. calves, average blacks, bred back, 1500.00 to 1550.00.
