High Plains Journal has been awarded seven awards from the Kansas Press Association's annual Award of Excellence program.

Amanda Johnson, graphic artist, was recognized with three awards. Johnson designed the All Aboard Wheat Harvest ad series, which won first place in the category for best ad series and/or campaign. Johnson's Sorghum U design won a first place award in the best community event category, and Johnson also picked up a first place award for the best house ad category--a collaboration with Sarah Farlee, marketing director, on the new digital edition ad.

Jennifer M. Latzke, associate editor, was awarded a first place award in the column writing category for her regular Common Ground column. Latzke also was awarded a second place, and third place in the agriculture story category.

Holly Martin, editor, was recognized for her weekly column, From the Editor, winning a third place award.

The Kansas Press Association was organized in 1863 to serve, improve and promote the newspaper industry, and to protect the rights of a free press. KPA sponsors its annual Awards of Excellence competition to recognize outstanding work by Kansas newspapers. The 34 contest categories focus on writing, photography, design, special sections and newspaper websites.

High Plains Journal and Midwest Ag Journal are weekly agriculture news publications with five geographic editions covering production agriculture across 12 states with paid readership. The Journal is based in Dodge City, Kan., and has brought essential industry news and markets to farm families and agriculture decision makers for more than 60 years throughout the core of production agriculture.
