Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 847 head March 11, compared to 457 head last week and 1,273 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

There were not enough recent sales of feeder steers or heifers for an adequate market trend, however a lower undertone was noted. Trade activity and demand were moderate. Offering included a load of eight weight Medium and large frame 1, heifers. Slaughter cows were mostly steady. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 14%, 1% replacements and 85% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 50% steers and bulls, 50% heifers, with 81% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 365 lbs., 196.00; few 402 lbs., 180.00; lot 620 lbs., 151.00; lot 703 lbs., 143.00; lot 848 lbs., fleshy 127.50; lot 883 lbs., 127.50, few 891 lbs., fleshy 126.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 426 lbs., 168.00; few 866 lbs., fleshy 122.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 550 to 600 lbs., 135.00 to 139.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 130.00 to 132.50; few 728 lbs., 120.00. Holsteins, Large frame 3, few 325 lbs., 90.00; few 810 lbs., 80.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 900 to 925 lbs., 110.00 to 115.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 306 lbs., 182.00; few 380 lbs., 164.00; lot 781 lbs., fleshy 124.50; load 841 lbs., 124.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 678 lbs., 124.00; few 720 lbs., 120.00. Medium and large frame 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 145.00 to 147.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, lot 571 lbs., 129.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 120.00 to 123.00; few 709 lbs., 120.50.

Slaughter cows: Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 85.75; high dressing, 88.00 to 88.50; low dressing, 82.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 84.50 to 86.00; 86.25 to 88.00; high dressing, 80.00 to 83.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 83.50 to 84.25.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, low dressing, individual 1665 lbs., 100.25.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to aged 800 to 1000 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred, 885.00 to 985.00; short and solid mouth, 900 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred, 860.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young 800 lbs., with 75-lb. calf, 1100.00/pair.
