Texas Direct feeder cattle summary


The Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary, reported receipts of 34,100 head March 8, compared to 21,800 head last week and 18,300 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, the current FOB feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady, but some firmness was noted on weights under 800 pounds compared to last week's lighter test. Approximately 98% of this week's cattle weighed over 600 pounds. Approximately 62% of this week's weighted average receipts were steers and 38% heifers. Prices based on net weights FOB after a 3% shrink or equivalent and 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 4 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery.

Steers: 20,100 head, 62%, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 700 to 750 lbs., 139.00 to 145.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 138.75 to 144.10; 800 to 850 lbs., 132.50 to 138.65. Delivered price, 700 to 750 lbs., 143.50 to 144.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 138.00 to 142.75; 800 to 850 lbs., 132.00 to 140.50; 850 to 900 lbs., 133.75 to 136.95. Future delivery, FOB price, 700 to 800 lbs., 142.25 to 152.40 March to July; 800 lbs., 141.95 May. Delivered Price 750 to 800 lbs., 143.75 to 144.15 April; 800 lbs., 140.00 to 151.40 April to July. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, FOB price, 700 to 750 lbs., 136.65 to 142.25. Delivered price, 565 lbs., Mexican Origin 150.00; 620 lbs., Mexican Origin 139.50; 670 lbs., 143.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 138.00 to 143.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 130.50 to 136.00.
