Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 2,254 head March 7, compared to 1,413 head two weeks ago and 1,770 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to two weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers under 800 pounds sold $2 to $5 higher. Steers and heifers weighing over 800 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Steer and heifer calves were not well tested. Trade activity was active on good demand after shutting down last week due to the blizzard that hit the area. The offering included several loads of yearlings coming off of wheat pastures. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 2%, 0% replacements, 98% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 54% steers and bulls, 46% heifers, with nearly 85% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 376 lbs., 200.00; few 402 lbs., 189.00; few 471 lbs., 175.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 170.00 to 172.50, few 581 lbs., fleshy 153.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 147.50 to 153.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 146.50 to 147.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 139.00 to 144.00, few 753 lb. calves, 139.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 134.0 to 134.75, lot 814 lbs., fleshy 133.50; 884 lbs., 129.50 to 131.00; 900 to 1000 lbs., 125.00 to 129.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 500 to 550 lbs., 160.00 to 165.00; few 592 lbs., 152.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 145.00 to 151.00; few 658 lbs., 142.00; lot 718 lbs., 145.75; 750 to 800 lbs., 135.00 to 136.00, few 761 lbs., fleshy 132.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 132.50 to 135.50; lot 1008 lbs., 124.10. Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1600 lbs., 79.00 to 83.00; low dressing, 74.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 83.50 to 86.50; high dressing, 87.50 to 90.50; low dressing, 79.50 to 82.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 86.00; high dressing, 87.00 to 88.75; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 83.00; low dressing, 75.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1320 to 2025 lbs., 103.00 to 106.25; high dressing, individual 1780 lbs., 107.50; low dressing, 1490 to 1555 lbs., 95.50 to 100.50.
