Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,596 head March 7, compared to 639 head last week and 2,505 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, 300- to 600-pound feeder steers and heifers were mostly firm, with instances of weaned or thin at $2 to higher. Steers and heifers at 600 to 850 pounds were $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $3 higher. Trade was active. Demand was good for 300- to 500-pound steer and heifer calves, moderate for those over 500 pounds. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 13% and slaughter bulls 2%, replacement cows 1%, and feeders 85%. The feeder supply included 38% steers and 62% heifers, with nearly 65% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 380 lbs., 193.00; few 450 to 500 lbs., 163.00 to 164.00; few 500 to 550 lbs., 159.50 to 165.00, few 594 lbs., 150.00; few 694 lbs., 141.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 375 to 395 lbs., 167.00 to 177.00; few 433 lbs., 155.00; few 710 lbs., 134.50.

Slaughter cows: Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 81.00 to 86.00; high dressing, 87.00 to 91.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 83.00 to 86.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 76.00 to 78.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1100 to 1700 lbs., 92.00 to 101.00; high dressing, 1700 to 2100 lbs., 106.00 to 113.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young to middle-aged, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 1185.00 to 1220.00/head; young to middle-aged, 1206 lbs., 7 to 9 months bred, 1325.00/head.
